Tonight we were blessed to have our Summa Cum Laude students recognize their Honored Educator. It was a night full of amazing stories, humor, impact, and the importance of relationships. We will share a longer editorial on the event on the district webpage tomorrow, but we didn't want to miss the opportunity to share our celebration!!!

On Wednesday, May 28th, our student leadership groups are teaming up to bring our first annual Cubs to Cats event. Houghton Lake Jr./Sr. High School, in partnership with Collins Elementary, will be bringing over our 6th students to prepare them for their transition over to our building next year.
We will be passing out some #BobcatPride swag, taking the kids on a building tour, discussing the ins and outs of the Jr./Sr. High School day, and answering any questions the kids have as they prepare to go from Cubs to Cats.
We are so proud of our student leadership as they have made it their goal to welcome our new students to the building and show them what #BobcatPride means!!!

HLHS was proud to recognize the 2025 inductees into the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society tonight. Students in grades 7-10 who were approved for induction were recognized, and our 9-12 grade students previously inducted also received their recognition.
These students truly embody the core values of this esteemed group, and it was a privilege to celebrate with them!

Our 7th grade Science of Yuck class dove into the world of osmosis with the classic naked egg experiment! Students dissolved the eggshells to reveal the membrane underneath, then explored how water moves in and out of cells through osmosis. 🌊🔬
It was messy, slimy, and totally awesome — science at its yuckiest and best! 🧠💥
Way to get hands-on, curious, and just a little gross, Bobcats! 💚🤍

Our 8th grade Science of Science Fiction class has been exploring how future civilizations might grow food to replenish resources. After learning about planting, sustainability, and space-inspired agriculture, students took their knowledge outside to get their hands dirty — planting sunflowers right here on campus! 🌻🌞
Proud of our young scientists for thinking big and growing even bigger. Go Bobcats! 💚🤍

Our 7th grade Science of Science Fiction students took on an End of the World survival challenge! Working in small groups, they were given limited resources — 5 cans of beans, 2 boxes of crackers, a gallon of water, and a few surprise items. 💧🥫
Teams had the chance to negotiate and trade with others, then use their final supplies to create a 7-day survival menu. A perfect mix of critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity! 💡🔥
Way to problem-solve, Bobcats! 💚🤍

HLHS classrooms were having a great week!!!
Biology students turned their science knowledge into creative children's books — and had the amazing opportunity to share them with 1st–4th graders at Collins Elementary! 🧠✨
A huge THANK YOU to the incredible teachers who welcomed us into your classrooms. What a great day of learning, sharing, and inspiring the next generation! 💚 #BobcatPride #ScienceInAction
Huge shoutout to Mrs. Armstrong’s ELA students! 🐾💚
They crushed their informative essay presentations on tech innovations they were passionate about. Students worked solo or in pairs to research, design, and present—and the results were seriously impressive! 💻💡
Professional slides, strong research, and lots of creativity. Way to represent, Bobcats!!

On Thursday, May 15th, HLCS will be geared up for all things performing arts. From 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the auditorium, we will host our 7th, 8th, and high school band concerts. This is a special performance as it will be Mr. Baker's final concert before his much-deserved retirement. We hope to see a huge contingency of Bobcat support.
Prior to the show, you will find an art gallery, courtesy of Mrs. Devos's junior and senior high art students. Enjoy taking the opportunity to peruse the displays of talent and effort our students have put in this semester.

Bobcat Nation!!!
We are excited to announce that our interactive Hall of Fame displays have arrived. While we were slated to unveil these this summer, our excitement got the best of us and we mounted the first board today. It has been exciting watching our students peruse the initial content, but we are SEEKING YOUR HELP!
Between now and next school year, our team will be working feverishly to populate the many past accomplishments of HLCS. This is no small undertaking for a district with nearly 100 years of achievement, and we are grateful for you patience and support as this content is generated.
What we are asking is that you help us fill in some content. Periodically, we will be canvassing the community for historical information...and the first prompt begins now.
If you, or anyone you know has photos, programs, images, or information related to the following prompts, please email these items to goodwinj@hlcsk12.net.
1.) Drama Department- any plays and musicals performed at HLHS from 1979-present.
2) Valedictorians and Salutatorians before 1972.
3.) Band and Choir Performances and rosters.
Our next major content update will populate May 20th, but until then, we are excitedly perusing our new visual of ##BobcatPride

HLHS would like to wish a Happy Administrative Professional's day to the three ladies who make our school run. Whether they are managing compliance paperwork, answering phones, being the face of the building for our students and parents, or keeping Mr. Watson behaved, our building could not function without these three amazing humans. So, if you see Mrs. Bovay, Mrs. Chludil, or Mrs. Portz today, please let them know they are appreciated!!! #BobcatPride
