What an amazing week for the Houghton Lake Bobcats and Roscommon Bucks for Coaches vs. Cancer! 🏀 We raised just under $13,000 for the Cancer Society, and over $1500 for our very own Seth Hutchinson, who’s been bravely battling brain tumors.
A huge thank you to our incredible students, staff, and parents who made this night unforgettable. Seeing everyone come together to support such important causes truly shows the power of community!

Coaches vs Cancer was an absolute success!!!
In the annual rivalry clash with Roscommon, our girls gave a great effort before falling to the Bucks 23-69 in the first game of the night. In the nightcap, our boys led wire to wire to sweep the season series with a 61-50 win.
But the bigger theme of the night, was that both schools combined for a collaborative win, raising over $13,000 for the American Cancer Society, and over $1500 for Houghton Lake student, Seth Hutchinson!!! If there is one thing that can bring the Bucks and Bobcats together, Coaches vs. Cancer continues to be it!
A huge shoutout goes to Coach Amanda Parks for spearheading the entire event along with Trisha Jackson from ACS. HLCS ELA teacher Sarah Armstrong took care of pep assembly planning, decorations, and Spirit Week theming. These two ladies, along with the support of dozens of Roscommon County community members and the HLCS and RAPS staff, completed an event to be proud of.

“The Houghton Lake Forensics team went down to Birch Run for their first tournament of the season. Congrats to Sidney Horski for her 6th place finish in Program Oral Interpretation.”

MS and Varsity Cheer held the annual Cheer on the Lake Competition at HLHS yesterday. In addition to hosting a wonderful event that saw hundred of athletes and spectators in our gymnasium, our squads both brought home 2nd place in their respective divisions!!!

Houghton Lake High School had the opportunity to attend the Summit for Leading with Character at Johannesburg School District! 💙💛
Our Student Senate and NHS members were able to collaborate with peers from other local schools, gaining valuable leadership experience and learning how to lead with integrity and purpose.
Proud to see our Bobcats growing as leaders and representing Houghton Lake with character!

🔬 Our 8th-grade scientists are in action! Students are working in small groups to measure and calculate wave energy, applying their math and science skills in a hands-on way.📊
With four different number sets around the room, they moved station to station, collecting figures and putting their knowledge to the test. 💡📖

🔬🦠 The 7th grade "Science of Yuck" class is diving into the microscopic world! Today, students learned how to use microscopes to explore the unseen and discover the wonders (and grossness) of science up close. 🧪👀

Bobcat Nation,
Houghton Lake Community Schools is seeking businesses, families, alumni, and community members interested in joining our Wall of Fame initiative.
HLCS has partnered with Rocket Alumni Solutions and will be purchasing LED, touch screen, interactive Wall of Fame displays. These displays will be present in the halls of HLHS, in the lobby, by the gym, auditorium, and office for students, staff, alumni, and guests to interact with. These boards will include accomplishments such as our Hall of Fame inductees, valedictorian and salutatorians, athletic champions, Honor Roll members, performing arts participants, and all other celebrations of achievement by our HLHS students and alumni. We truly believe these boards will help us celebrate the excellence that this district has consistently produced, in an exciting and aesthetically pleasing manner.

Thus far, we have received contributions to purchase three of the boards. The Houghton Lake Sports Boosters have generously agreed to purchase a 65" monitor to mount outside of the gym by the trophy cases in celebration of our athletic feats, and we are so excited to highlight their many contributions to HLCS on the donor page. The school's academic organizations are combining to purchase a board for the lobby, to highlight academic excellence. Additionally, our Hall of Fame committee is hoping to mobilize to help purchase a 3rd board that can showcase and highlight the Hall of Fame inductees.
With all of this said, we are seeking 6-10 donors interested in contributing $500 to the initiative. The $500 contribution would get your name on the Wall of Fame donor page for the duration of our contract (3 years), with options to continue when we extend the contract.
Our community has been an overwhelmingly generous contributor to HLHS. There is no obligation or pressure to contribute. Rather, we are just immensely excited by this product and the ramifications it will have in celebrating our district's excellence, and we wanted to give the community the opportunity to participate and to be memorialized in these displays for your contributions to celebrating #BobcatPride.
Unfortunately, due to the pricing for this product changing at the end of the month, all commitments to this donor project are due by next Thursday. I want to again apologize for the short timeframe I have given. We have been researching products similar to this for a while, and this one is currently running a deal that was too good for us to pass up. Again, this deal expires next Friday, so all commitments would be due Thursday, January 30th. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at 989-366-2005 or via email at Goodwinj@hlcsk12.net.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Goodwin
Principal, HLHS
