HLCS would like to give a massive round of applause for our National Honor Society students, who took 100% ownership of the "Paws with a Cause" fundraiser.

From the first planning meeting to the final whistle, these students did it all to support the Roscommon County Animal Shelter. We are so proud of their leadership and the incredible community that showed up to back them!

WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT THE FOLLOWING:

Our Sponsors: For believing in our students’ vision and providing the support to make it a reality.

The Roscommon County Voice and Houghton Lake Resorter: For running ads and sharing our event with the community.

Sullivan's Solutions
Spicer's Boat CITY
Little Boots Country Diner
Phoenix Fire and Safety
Don Nester of Houghton Lake
The Ledbetter family

Our awesome MC, Justin Rogers.

Our surprise referee, Mr. Sura.

Our players: For your competitive spirit and for playing with heart! Thank you to the alumni, HLCS staff, local firefighters, and the Roscommon County Sheriff's Department.

Our attendees: For showing up, cheering loud, and donating to a cause that matters.

Because of this year's amazing turnout, we are hoping to make this an ANNUAL event! Who’s ready to join us next year?

Check out some of our favorite moments from the day below!

Yesterday, our 8th grade class took a visit to the Wexford-Missaukee CTC programs to observe some of the programs accessible to them in the future. It was an exciting day of exploration as they begin to form their Educational Development Plans and begin to navigate career readiness.

The HLHS Bowling team would like to thank all of the sponsors and volunteers who contributed to their first annual Pin-a-thon Fundraiser. We were excited to see so many community members show up to support our bowling program, and we already have plans in the works to make next year's event even bigger.

Congratulations to our lucky raffle winners, and on behalf of our school community, thank you all for your support. Because of your kindness and generosity, we were able to raise nearly $2500 for our Bowling teams!!!

Bobcat Nation, we are seeking your help! Recently, an update to our Hall of Fame boards added 30 new yearbooks to our collection. You can view these yearbooks at...

https://site.rocketalumnisolutions.com/category/6787629d46c8e5d50dc3baae/679a6278cecad955a909e837?backButton=true

This update means we have yearbooks ranging from 1949 to present day. However, we are missing some years from the archives. If you have a copy of any yearbook from the following years, and are willing to loan it to us while we have it copied into PDF form, we would love to add it to our readily available Hall of Fame display and websites. Missing years include:

1948 and earlier.

1950, 1955, 1958

1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1966, 1968

“The Mystery of the Missing Staff Members!” Mr West’s 7th-grade class, Enrichment: The Science of Forensics, has been learning about making inferences and examining evidence. They learned about Locard’s Exchange Principle, which tells us, “Every contact leaves a trace”. Today they were able to look at their first mock mystery scene and tried to decide what staff members were missing. Students were given two cases, with each scene containing personal items belonging to different staff members. Each scene had multiple items from one individual (the missing person) and at least one “red herring” item that belongs to a completely different staff member. They used the content acquired over the last two weeks to crack the case! These students are using inquiry, having fun, and discussing content simultaneously!

Our RoboCats pushed hard into the quarterfinals, but came up just short of advancing. Still, they walked away with some huge accomplishments; Chris Dilts and Chaysin Ledbetter came in strong, securing a 4th place spot in the Skills portion of the competition, and Chaysin Ledbetter scored highest in the entire competition in Atonomous Flight with a score of 135. We’re incredibly proud of their grit, growth, and the way they showed up today.
