The HLHS Bowling team would like to thank all of the sponsors and volunteers who contributed to their first annual Pin-a-thon Fundraiser. We were excited to see so many community members show up to support our bowling program, and we already have plans in the works to make next year's event even bigger.

Congratulations to our lucky raffle winners, and on behalf of our school community, thank you all for your support. Because of your kindness and generosity, we were able to raise nearly $2500 for our Bowling teams!!!

Due to an unfortunate wave of illness, tomorrow's Coaches vs. Cancer game is being modified. Tonight's JV boys and girls games have been canceled. Here, Advanced STEM students Isaiah Goodwin and Cody Goodrich are testing out their Laser Engraved, epoxy-coated chess board. They also 3D printed their pieces. 💚🖤🤍

“The Mystery of the Missing Staff Members!” Mr West’s 7th-grade class, Enrichment: The Science of Forensics, has been learning about making inferences and examining evidence. They learned about Locard’s Exchange Principle, which tells us, “Every contact leaves a trace”. Today they were able to look at their first mock mystery scene and tried to decide what staff members were missing. Students were given two cases, with each scene containing personal items belonging to different staff members. Each scene had multiple items from one individual (the missing person) and at least one “red herring” item that belongs to a completely different staff member. They used the content acquired over the last two weeks to crack the case! These students are using inquiry, having fun, and discussing content simultaneously!

Our girls basketball squads are hosting HLYBA night. Not only do we have our 4th-12th grade Bobcat Lady Ballers in the house, but ESPN the Ocho has shown up to cover the broadcast!!! It's a great night to be a Bobcat!!!

Our RoboCats pushed hard into the quarterfinals, but came up just short of advancing. Still, they walked away with some huge accomplishments; Chris Dilts and Chaysin Ledbetter came in strong, securing a 4th place spot in the Skills portion of the competition, and Chaysin Ledbetter scored highest in the entire competition in Atonomous Flight with a score of 135. We’re incredibly proud of their grit, growth, and the way they showed up today.

With plenty of flying still ahead the Robocats are holding strong as they finish the 1st half of the day at Kettering University.

HLHS could not be more proud of our dual enrollment partnership with Kirtland Community College. Countless HLHS students have earned college credits during their high school years while saving a significant amount of money through this partnership. We are proud of MaKenna and our dual enrollment students for their academic pursuits. Houghton Lake Jr./Sr. High School would like to give a huge thank you to Terry Hessbrook and the B#4 foundation for their presentation today. Terry presented on his son, Brady, with a focus on empowering students to seek help when struggling with mental health concerns. This powerful message captivated our 7th-12th grade audience, and we are grateful for the community partnerships that made it possible. A big thank you to the Roscommon County Sheriff's office and their Victim Services Unit for organizing and funding this powerful presentation. 💚🖤🤍

Trenten Powell, a student in Mr. Bunns STEM 1 class, designed a pickle ball trophy for Mr. Kotecki’s pickle ball club. Trenten used CAD software and 3D printers to complete the project.

Athletic contests for tonight have been cancelled. High school coaches will be in contact with athletes regarding practices.

Houghton Lake Middle and High School bands gave an amazing Holiday Concert tonight. With performances by our 7th, 8th, and High School bands, we heard holiday favorites, timeless classics, and attendees were able to tour our HLHS Art Show! A special thanks goes to the Houghton Lake Band Boosters for organizing a truly impressive silent auction to assist in raising money for new band uniforms!!! 💚🖤🤍
