Houghton Lake Community Schools is excited to launch Bobcat Buddies, a new peer mentorship program connecting students across our campus.

Through the program, Houghton Lake Jr./Sr. High School dual enrollment students will be paired with students from Collins Elementary School to serve as mentors, role models, and positive connections for younger Bobcats.

Sponsored by Mentors in the Mitten, Bobcat Buddies builds on the success of our Peer Link program and expands peer mentorship across the district. This year, the program will include nearly 40 Bobcat Buddies pairs, directly impacting more than 80 students.

Mentors and their buddies will have opportunities to read, learn, talk, and spend meaningful time together. For our high school students, the program offers valuable experience in leadership, communication, responsibility, and service. For Collins students, it provides another caring and encouraging connection within the Houghton Lake school community.

Bobcat Buddies is another example of how being on one campus allows us to create relationships between students of different ages and strengthen our sense of community.

Our goal is simple: help younger students see the possibilities ahead of them while giving older students the opportunity to discover the positive impact they can have on others.

We are grateful to Mentors in the Mitten for supporting this initiative and helping us create more opportunities for students to connect, grow, and lead.

Nearly 40 pairs. More than 80 students. One Bobcat community.

Big students. Brighter futures. Same campus. Stronger together.
