GED PREPARATION AND TESTING CENTER
  • Earn your GED-available to anyone 18 and older without a high school diploma.
  • Adults Basic Education (ABE) is available to anyone who would like to obtain a GED but needs assistance in bringing up their reading, writing, and math skills before taking the test.
  • Offered four nights a week.  Monday throughThursday from 4:30-8:30 p.m.
  • The Houghton Lake Community Education Program is one of Michigan’s official General Education Development Testing Centers.  The General Education Development Test (GED) is commonly referred to as the High School Equivalency Test. It consist of five parts: Language Arts Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts Reading, and Mathematics.  
  • Persons must be 18 years of age or older to qualify for GED testing. GED and Adult Basic Education classes will be offered in the evenings only.  You must bring in a picture ID and your Social Security card when registering for classes.
  • Students who attend GED prep classes are allowed to take the tests free of charge.  If students do not want to take the prep classes, they will be charged $45.00 for each subject area test.
  • Childcare is provided free of charge to all GED/ABE students while they attend class.
  • Do you need a way to and from class?  HLCE will pay for rides to and from class on the Roscommon County Mini-Bus.

    Calculator Orientation

    The new GED Math test consists of two parts, one of which requires the use of a scientific calculator chosen by the State of Michigan. In order to support your success in completing this portion of the examination, each candidate will be required to attend an orientation session one half hour before the beginning of the testing session. If a test is scheduled at 12:30 for example, you must be at the testing center at noon to participate. Non-registered persons will NOT be allowed to test until they have attended an orientation session.
